Meet Sturgill Simpson…and alot of Beer

June 24, 2014

Hey Folks,

Introducing an artist to people is serious buisness.  How is this music best represented? A live track? Newest material? Back catalogue?  It’s a daunting task.  That is of course, unless you are able to find a video of said artist in a brewery playing their music surrounded by cans of beer.  Such is the case with hard hittin’ country singer Sturgill Simpson.

For those of you who were getting ready to head for the hills when I let the “C” word fly, be not afraid cats!  This here is a man leading the charge to bring country music back to its bad self.  All this can be heard as Sturgill tears into the opening lyrics of “You Can Have The Crown” off his 2013 album High Top Mountain,”

Well, I been spending all my money on weed n’ pills
Trying to write a song that’ll pay the bills
But it ain’t came yet so I guess I’ll have to rob a bank

We’re not quite listening to Luke Bryant folks.  With an opening slot just nailed down for Zac Brown Band, Sturgill is about to leap from one of american music’s best kept secrets to having the chance to turn on a whole mess of people to some great authentic country music.

Props to MOKB Sessions and Sun King Brewing for realizing what an amazing idea it was to let Sturgill Simpson and his band play in a room filled with beer.

Sturgill Simpson is of course on Facebook and twitter and all those shenanigans.  He’s currently touring with his trippy sweet album “Metamodern Sounds in Country Music.”  On July 9th, he’s going to roll through the Bowery Ballroom in NYC, playing a gig with Pokey LaFarge.  Talk about a sweet line up.

well peace out good people of the world,

Peter Winter

Peter tries hard not to be a country music snob, but it’s so hard not to be with lyrics like, “honky tonk badonkadonk” he’s also on twitter and you can follow him at peterwinter38
